County says it hired connected attorney, who later says he never accepted job

Wednesday morning, Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's administration confirmed that a politically connected attorney accepted a $100,000-a-year management job overseeing the county's labor relations contracts.

By Wednesday afternoon -- after the Chicago Sun-Times had contacted county commissioners about the hire -- Mike Joyce, son of onetime South Side powerbroker Jeremiah Joyce, said he wasn't taking the job.
