Braun failed to file documentation on how campaign spent $315K

The unsuccessful 2011 mayoral campaign of Carol Moseley Braun has failed to file documentation on how $315,000 in campaign funds was spent, something that is required by state law.

Illinois Board of Elections officials told the Chicago Sun-Times and NBC5 News they have been unsuccessful in getting either Braun or her now-defunct campaign to explain how the money was spent.

Ethics Watchdog Seeks Dismissal of Indictment Against John Edwards

A government watchdog group known for aggressively advocating prosecution against unethical lawmakers is seeking dismissal of a criminal case against former presidential candidate John Edwards.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, requested Wednesday to file a friend-of-the-court brief in support of dismissing an indictment against Edwards for alleged violations of campaign finance law.

A politician running for a Cook County office on a message of reform owes more than $17,000 dollars to Illinois' election board. Ald. Rick Munoz is promising to clear up the overdue fines.

Munoz is listed as chairman of a couple campaign funds, including one called the 22nd Ward Independent Political Organization.

Political groups owe the state of Illinois hundreds of thousands of dollars in overdue fines. All campaign committees must make public who gave them money, and how they spent it. That's the law. And if they file these reports late, they can be fined. But a lot of times those fines just sit there unpaid.

Judge upholds new Iowa campaign disclosure rules

A federal judge has upheld key parts of a new Iowa law requiring corporations and unions to disclose spending for or against political candidates, saying the rules increase transparency while protecting the right to free speech.

U.S. District Chief Judge Robert Pratt in Des Moines issued a written decision Wednesday rejecting arguments by Iowa Right to Life, which claimed the disclosure requirements were overly burdensome and chilled its ability to support candidates who share its opposition to abortion.

FEC Asks Crossroads to Reveal Donors
