A three-way, all-woman race is shaping up for the Supreme Court of Illinois seat of Thomas Fitzgerald.

Former state Appellate Justice Mary Jane Theis was appointed to replace Fitzgerald and is racking up endorsements from elected officials and prominent lawyers to keep the seat permanently.

No pension for Ryan

 The seven justices of the Illinois Supreme Court are mulling whether convicted racketeer George Ryan deserves a pension from taxpayers of some $60,000 a year. Attorney James Thompson, another former governor, argued to the justices that Ryan merits the retirement payouts for Ryan's years in government before he became secretary of state in 1991. Before, that is, Ryan oversaw the felonious crime spree that has landed him in a federal slammer until July 4, 2013.
