Urge Quinn to Reject Elimination of Corruption Tools in Races with SuperPACs

SB 3722, which would lift contribution limits in races where SuperPACs are especially active, was sent to Gov. Quinn yesterday. ICPR opposed the bill in the legislature because it removes tools to fight corruption in precisely those races where special interests are most involved. We had urged the legislature to directly address the risks of corruption from giving to SuperPACs.

Quinn uses executive powers to try to open primary voting

Gov. Pat Quinn Tuesday used special executive veto power to try to change Illinois primary voting methods.

Under rewritten election legislation, voters would be able to cast primary ballots without declaring a political party - Republican, Democrat or Green - first.

Instead, they would receive ballots for each respective party and privately decide which to use.
