Illinois Trial Lawyers Association
The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association is a statewide organization whose members specialize in representing injured consumers and workers. Founded in 1952, the organization currently has over 2,000 members. Medical malpractice legislation is of particular concern to the association; the group opposes any effort to cap jury verdicts. Personal injury lawsuits played a prominent role in the 2004 race for the Supreme Court seat in the Fifth Judicial District.
The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association is a career patron of House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President Emil Jones.
From January 1, 1993 through June 30, 2006, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association contributed $3.835 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 95% of which was contributed to Democrats.
Last revised September 2006.
