Illinois Hospital Association
The Illinois Hospital Association (IHA), with offices in Naperville,
Springfield and Carbondale, represents more than 200 private hospitals
and health systems. IHA's legislative agenda included the simplification
and streamlining of payment to health care providers, increasing
Medicaid and KidCare base payments to hospitals, transferring state
planning power to community-based boards, prohibiting exclusive-contracts
for physicians, and prohibiting physicians from bargaining collectively.
The Association opposes legislation that would provide for tax exemptions
focusing on "charity care" and other legislation that
would restrict hospitals' ability to bill patients.
IHA is a career patron of Governor Rod Blagojevich, Democratic Party Chair and Speaker of the House Michael Madigan (D), Senate President Emil Jones (D), Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka (R), House Republican Leader Tom Cross, and Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson (R).
From January 1, 1993 through June 30, 2006, the Illinois Hospital Association contributed $5,760,000 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 52% of which was contributed to Republicans.
Last revised September 2006.
