Illinois Power / Dynegy, Inc.
In 2004, Dynegy sold Illinois Power to Ameren Corp.
for $2.3 billion. Illinois Power, now a primary business unit of
Ameren Corp., is an energy provider with annual revenues of about
$2.4 billion. It serves over 650,000 natural gas and electricity
customers and covers a service territory encompassing much of downstate
Illinois. Illinois Power contributes through a political action
committee called Dyna-ILN PAC and the Illinois Power Employee Political
Involvement Committee. Illinois Power is seeking approval from the
Illinois Commerce Commission to buy power through auction, despite
concerns that their auction plan would greatly increase costs to
consumers.
Illinois Power/Ameren Corp. is a career patron of Senate Republican
Leader Frank Watson.
From 1993 through December 31, 2005, Dynegy, Inc. and Illinois
Power gave $1.795 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional
and legislative office, 59% of which was contributed to Republicans.
