Illinois Power / Dynegy, Inc.

In 2004, Dynegy sold Illinois Power to Ameren Corp. for $2.3 billion. Illinois Power, now a primary business unit of Ameren Corp., is an energy provider with annual revenues of about $2.4 billion. It serves over 650,000 natural gas and electricity customers and covers a service territory encompassing much of downstate Illinois. Illinois Power contributes through a political action committee called Dyna-ILN PAC and the Illinois Power Employee Political Involvement Committee. Illinois Power is seeking approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission to buy power through auction, despite concerns that their auction plan would greatly increase costs to consumers.

Illinois Power/Ameren Corp. is a career patron of Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson.

From 1993 through December 31, 2005, Dynegy, Inc. and Illinois Power gave $1.795 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 59% of which was contributed to Republicans.
