Illinois AFL-CIO

The Illinois American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations represents one million workers through its member unions. Among the items on the IL AFL-CIO's legislative agenda is the expansion of unemployment insurance eligibility, health insurance, a minimum wage increase, a minimum wage increase for state workers, corporate accountability measures, and family leave. Margaret Blackshere, elected to lead the Illinois AFL-CIO in 2000, retired in 2007; she was succeeded by Michael Carrigan.

From 1993 through June 30, 2007, the Illinois AFL-CIO gave $1,945,000 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 98% of which was contributed to Democrats.
