Illinois Power/Ameren/Dynegy

In 2004, Dynegy sold Illinois Power to Ameren Corp. for $2.3 billion. Illinois Power, now a primary business unit of Ameren Corp., is an energy provider with annual revenues of about $2.4 billion. It serves over 650,000 natural gas and electricity customers and covers a service territory encompassing much of downstate Illinois. Illinois Power no longer generates its own energy, but resells power that it purchases from others. Illinois Power contributes through a political action committee called the Illinois Power Employee Political Involvement Committee. Dynegy continues to operate power generation plants in Illinois and it retains control over Dyn-PAC. In late 2005, Illinois Power sought approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission to buy power through auction.

Illinois Power is a career patron of Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson.

From 1993 through December 31, 2005, Dynegy, Inc. and Illinois Power gave $1.795 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 59% of which was contributed to Republicans.
