Illinois Laborers Legislative Committee
The Illinois Laborers Legislative Committee is a PAC representing
Illinois interests of the Laborers International Union of North
America. The Laborers have 50,000 members working in a variety of
industries throughout the Midwest. The union, especially the Chicago-area
Laborers District Council office, has been accused of tolerating
mob influence. The Chicago local was ordered by a federal court
to be monitored by a third party. Several former union leaders have
been convicted of various financial schemes.
The Illinois Laborers Legislative Committee is a career patron
of Secretary of State Jesse White (D), and Comptroller Dan Hynes
(D).
From 1993 through December 31, 2002, the Illinois Laborers Legislative
Committee gave $401,000 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional
and legislative office, 91% of which was contributed to Democrats.
Last revised August, 2003.
