Demuzio, State Senator Vince
Illinois State Senator Vince Demuzio, who died in April of 2004,
contributed to candidates through his political action committee,
the Senator Vince Demuzio Campaign Fund. Demuzio, a Democrat, represents
the 49th Senate District in Carlinville, Illinois. Prior to his
election to the Illinois Senate in 1974, he served as Executive
Director of the Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation,
a community action agency. Demuzio was appointed Assistant Senate
Majority Leader in the 83rd General Assembly (1983-1984) and was
reappointed in the 84th, 85th, 86th, and 87th General Assemblies.
In January, 1993 he was appointed Assistant Democratic Leader of
the 88th General Assembly and was re-appointed in 1995, 1997, 1999
and 2001. He currently serves as a member of the Senate Education,
Executive, and Executive Appointments. Demuzio serves as the Minority
Spokesperson on the Rules Committees. He is also a member of the
Legislative Audit Commission and served on the Steering Committee
to re-examine the Illinois Constitution. Demuzio was elected to
the Illinois Democratic State Central Committee from the 20th Congressional
District in 1982, and was re-elected in 1986, 1990, 1994 and 1998.
He was elected Chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party in April,
1986 and served through April, 1990. He also served as Chairman
of the Illinois delegation to the Democratic National Convention
in Atlanta in 1988, and was a member of the Democratic National
Committee's Executive Committee. His seat in the State Senate is
now held by his widow, Deanna Demuzio, who was sworn in May of 2004.
From 1993 through June 30, 2002, the Senator Vince Demuzio Campaign
Fund contributed $164,000 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional
and legislative office, all to Democrats.
