Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council
of Carpenters
Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters
represents 35,000 workers in Northeast Illinois. It maintains two
training facilities, one in Elk Grove Village and one in Chicago's
near South Side. In 2000 the Carpenters lost a court case to Contempo
Design, Inc., who claimed the union waged a strike in violation
of a past agreement. The State of Illinois adopted a law in 2001
to create special carpenter's union license plates and to designate
a charitable Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of
Carpenters Fund.
Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters is
a career patron of Governor Rod Blagojevich (D), Attorney General
Lisa Madigan (D), and Secretary of State Jesse White (D).
From 1993 through June 30, 2003, Chicago and Northeast Illinois
District Council of Carpenters gave $702,298 to candidates for Illinois
statewide constitutional and legislative office, 94% of which was
contributed to Democrats.
Last revised August, 2003.
