Bank One

Chicago-based Bank One Corporation serves over 50 million consumers nationwide and holds approximately $270 billion in assets. Bank One is a part of the new JPMorgan Chase created in July of 2004. JPMorgan Chase has assets of approximately $1.1 trillion and operates in more than 50 countries. The bank lobbied to pass legislation that would allow it to move its charter to Illinois without being constrained by the limits on fees that Illinois laws impose. Bank One withdrew from the Illinois Bankers Association because the IBA did not offer sufficient support for its legislation. Bank One then joined the Illinois Manufacturers Association, which endorsed the Bank One bill.

Bank One is a career patron of Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka (R).

From 1993 through June 30, 2003, Bank One gave $731,000 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 58% of which was contributed to Republicans.
