American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME-IL) has 75,000 members. ASFCME engaged in a very public battle over the state budget of fiscal year 2004. During that year, more than 700 state workers were certified to become members of the AFSCME Council 31. AFSCME has been in a very public fight with SEIU over the right to organize state employees.

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees is a career patron of Governor Rod Blagojevich (D), Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D), House Speaker Michael Madigan (D), Lieutenant Governor Patrick Quinn (D), and Senate President Emil Jones (D).

From January 1, 1993 through June 30, 2006, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees gave $3.049 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 90% of which was contributed to Democrats.
