*Ask the governor to defend open government
A plan to roll back parts of the state's Freedom of Information Act is awaiting action from Gov. Pat Quinn. This plan would allow public bodies to delay responding to some requests for records and to charge businesses for access to some public documents. Both of these changes would discourage governments from putting information online, for all to see. Use  ICPR's website to contact the governor about this pending legislation by simply entering your contact information.

*Sunshine Database
Our website has been updated with the full second quarter receipts, as well as large donations of $1,000 or more through July 16. So far, the receipts are 87% coded, though we're working now on identifying several new donors, and plain old new permutations of old names. By the end of next week, we'll have the expenditures and fund balances fully updated for all candidates for Chicago office, as well as incumbents in statewide, legislative, and Cook County offices. Got a question about a candidate or contributor? Go check our the Sunshine Database.

*Young Leaders Public Interest Seminar Series
The good times continue to roll with our Young Leaders Public Interest Seminar Series! Over the past four weeks, we've really enjoyed getting to know interns at Chicago non profits and our fantastic panelists.

At yesterday's panel on Government and campaigns we heard the stories of Former City Clerk and candidate for Mayor, Hon. Miguel DelValle, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Liutenant Governor (and former ICPR intern!) Chad Quincy, Director of Public Affairs and former congressional staffer, Dave Kohn, Former State Representative Kathy Ryg and State Representative Arthur Turner.

The breadth and depth of our panelists' experience was truly enriching and we were so thrilled to have them! Some great photos are available on our facebook page. We can't wait to hear from a fantastic panel of experts at our Media & Journalism panel next Wednesday, July 29th.

*Looking for a fall internship? Here's your chance!
ICPR is looking for students who will have an understanding of the political process and an interest in Illinois politics.  Candidates should possess excellent research, writing and interpersonal skills.  ICPR is flexible and willing to work around other obligations though we ask that interns be available for at least 15 hours each week for the duration of the 15 week internship. The internship is set to begin September 6th and end the week of December 16th.

Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to Nelly Viramontes at Nelly@ilcampaign.org.   The deadline for consideration for this internship is August 5th.
