Legislative Update:

Gambling on Illinois Government
Between 1993 and 2002 Illinois incumbents and candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and statewide executive office have received $8,935,786 in political contributions from the gaming industry, with $2,245,815 of that amount pouring in during the past two years. The Illinois legislature is currently considering bills that expand gambling in Illinois.

Telecom Bill Signed into Law
In an amazing show of speed, the telecom wholesale rate bill blew through the legislature in two days and was signed into law. Hardwired, ICPR's Issue Briefing on political giving by the telecommunications industry, reveals that total contributions grew by a third and that SBC was the largest telecom giver.
