Midwest Democracy Network Releases Presidential Questionnaire
The Midwest Democracy Network, whose number includes ICPR, today released the results of a survey of presidential candidates on a range of reform issues. The questionnaires were mailed to all Republican and Democratic candidates in September, only former US. Senator John Edwards and current US Senator Barack Obama chose to share their views on issues critical to democracy. To see their responses, click here; for more on the results, click here.

Special Session Forecast
The weather in Springfield for tomorrow's special session on transit issues is to be "brisk and cold" and that also seems a reasonable guess for the reception the transit bail out plan will receive. Some legislators continue to link the plan to a capital bill, and still others continue to link a capital plan to a gambling plan. Whatever happens, we continue to believe that gambling expansion must be accompanied by toughening state oversight of gambling sites, and that a capital plan should go hand in hand with a crackdown on pay to play contracting.
