ETHICS REFORM PASSES!
Thanks to the tremendous effort of citizens around the state, last week the legislature gave final approval to the most sweeping package of ethics reform in over a generation. These measures will be phased in over the coming weeks, and by the March, 2004 Primary Election Illinois will be operating under a whole new set of stringent ethics rules.

The scope of these reforms is stunning, and could change the way political and electoral campaigns are conducted in Illinois. Passage made news across the nation and around the globe; even the British paper The Guardian ran a story on the Illinois reform bills. Details of the reform package are available on the ICPR website at ilcampaign.org

While ICPR staff and others in the reform community worked diligently to keep reform moving forward, ultimately it was the calls, letters, and voices of ordinary citizens demanding reform after years of political corruption that forced the legislature to address the issue. Your support made this happen. Stay in touch; together we can continue to fix the ills that plague Illinois government.
