MAKE www.ilcampaign.org YOUR FIRST STOP FOR CAMPAIGN FINANCE INFORMATION
Already one of the best sources for accurate information about who is funding
state election campaigns, the web site of the Illinois Campaign for Political
Reform (www.ilcampaign.org) has just expanded to include new information about
judicial campaigns and campaigns for federal offices.
“Journalists have come to rely on our web site as a dependable source
of unbiased information about campaign contributions and expenditures by candidates
for the General Assembly and other state offices,” said Cynthia Canary,
Director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR). “For the
first time, we’re able to provide similar information about contributions
to Illinois’ federal campaigns and more extensive information about judicial
candidates in Illinois.”
Here’s some of what you’ll find on the expanded web page:
Up-to-date information about contributions in what is likely to be most
expensive election for a seat on the Illinois Supreme Court in the state’s
history. Still awaiting pre-election reports on fundraising in July, August and
September and with a few more weeks to go, fundraising in the 5th District has
already exceeded $2 million.
Biographical information about judicial candidates, as well as their responses
to questions about how the state court system can be improved and how the judiciary
can insulate itself from political pressures. The questionnaires are accessed
through a link to www.illinoisvotersguide.org, a joint project of ICPR and Justice
at Stake, a nonpartisan national partnership working to keep our courts fair and
impartial.
Details of contributions to U.S. Senate candidates from Illinois and all candidates
running for congressional seats from Illinois. The information compiled by our
national partners politicalmoneyline.com includes how much has been raised from
individuals and political action committees, total receipts and spending through
the most recent federal reporting period, and links to more detailed reports filed
with the Federal Elections Commission.
Where state legislative candidates stand on a variety of campaign reform issues,
including legislation to limit the size of campaign contributions and a ban on
contributions from industries regulated by state government.
Through the November 2nd election, ICPR also will post frequent updates on some
of the hottest legislative and judicial races. ICPR’s “The Race
Is On” can be accessed on the web site’s home page (www.ilcampaign.org).
It will be updated twice weekly and, if warranted, more often.
The web site also includes the searchable Illinois Sunshine Database, which
permits easy access to complete information about candidates’ and political
parties’ receipts and expenditures. ICPR is a non-profit, non-partisan
organization working to increase public awareness of how political campaigns
are funded in Illinois.
