Paul Simon Tribute: Thursday, August 12
Abner Mikva and Dawn Clark Netsch invite you to attend a celebration of Paul Simon and the ethics reforms signed into law last December. Close the Books on Citizens for George H. Ryan
Former Gov. George Ryan has closed the books on his political committee, Citizens for George H. Ryan. The committee made history when it became the first state-level political committee in the nation to be convicted on federal charges. Citizens for George H. Ryan reported $4.9 million on hand as of June 30, 1998; under state law, Ryan would have been allowed to take that amount for personal use after leaving office. Instead, the great bulk of the committee's resources went to Ryan's legal defense; when the fund was closed, Ryan took just $3,327.84 for his personal benefit.

Campaign Reports Due Soon
Campaign finance reports for the first half of 2004 are due to be filed with the State Board of Elections by Monday, August 2. ICPR will be processing the reports throughout August, and will be posting reports and analysis in the coming weeks. Be sure to check ilcampaign.org for updates!
