Winston and Strawn is an international law firm with offices in Chicago; New York City; Los Angeles; Washington, DC; Paris, France; and Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1853, the firm currently has 850 attorneys and many prominent business clients. Former Governor James R. Thompson is the firm's Chairman. Dan K. Webb, also a partner, is a former U.S. Attorney. He practices civil litigation and criminal defense. His clients have included former U.S. Representative Dan Rostenkowski, General Electric, Microsoft and former Republican Governor George Ryan

Winston and Strawn and partner Dan K. Webb are career patrons of former Attorney General and unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate Jim Ryan (R). As of June 30, 2002, they had contributed $104,500 to Jim Ryan; $63,000 was contributed by Dan Webb and $41,500 was contributed by the law firm.

From 1993 to June 30, 2002, Dan Webb and Winston and Strawn contributed $202,000 to Illinois legislative and statewide candidates, 90% of which went to Republicans.
