Aon Corporation, headquartered in Chicago, is the world’s largest provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage and human capital and management consulting. Aon has 59,000 employees in 500 offices in over 120 countries. Patrick G. Ryan was the founder of Aon and served as the executive chairman until his retirement in 2008. Through dozens of acquisitions, he grew Aon into the largest insurance company in the world. He also owns and contributes to politicians through Ryan Holding Corporation. Ryan is Chairman of the board of trustees of Northwestern University and serves as a life trustee of Rush University Medical Center. He is also an owner/director of the Chicago Bears Football Club. Since 2006, Ryan has served as Chairman and Chief Executive of Chicago 2016, the committee overseeing Chicago’s Olympic Bid. Former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, who served as Honorary Chairman of Chicago 2016, made the appointment. That same year, Ryan gave a $100,000 contribution to Daley’s campaign.

Since 1994, Patrick Ryan, Aon, and Ryan Holding Corporation have given a total of $667,760 to candidates in Illinois.
