31ST WARD COMMITTEEMAN JOE BERRIOS
Currently serving as the Cook County Assessor, Joseph Berrios is responsible for establishing fair and accurate property assessments. Mr. Berrios is also the chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party. Formerly, he served on the Cook County Board of Tax Appeals, which hears appeals for property tax assessments. In addition, he previously served as a State Representative and as the 31st Ward Democratic Committeeman. He gives political contributions through his political action committees, including the Committee to Elect Joseph Berrios Assessor and Citizens for Berrios. Combined, Berrios' PACs raised $206,000 during the last six months of 2001, and have a total balance on hand of over $1,200,000. Berrios' office came under fire in early 2002 when two staff members were found to have cut their own property taxes. Berrios later fired the two employees.
From 1993 - 2001, Chicago Committeeman Joseph Berrios' Political Committees gave $93,173 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 100% of which was contributed to Democrats.
