* Election Wrap-Up
The 2010 General Election saw record fundraising among candidates for governor and Supreme Court retention. Fully 15 legislative races passed the $1 million mark in combined fundraising. Throughout the election season, we were able to update the Sunshine Database twice-weekly with newly reported receipts by candidates for statewide, legislative, and Cook County office. Our website has the details on fundraising for all candidates, and our blog provides analysis. And with over 300 candidates filed for Chicago office, we're gearing up for more in 2011. Check out our website to stay informed.
* Veto Session is Underway
In the first week of the fall Veto Session the legislature enacted a bad Freedom of Information Act bill into law, and began the process of enacting a good law creating an Inspector General for the RTA, Metra, PACE, and the CTA. The General Assembly is also moving shell bills that may allow for changes affecting the 2003 Ethics Act, the Gift Ban, and election laws, among a host of other topics. ICPR staff was in Springfield for the first week, and expect to see more movement when they return after Thanksgiving and again in the new year. Stay tuned!
* In Memoriam: Larry Hansen
Larry Hansen played many roles over his 70 years. He was Vice President of the Joyce Foundation, he worked in elections around Illinois and the nation, and he inspired many reform organizations in Chicago and across the country. He died on Monday, November 15 from complications from cancer. Larry's vision for reform, his ability to put people together, and his unceasing humor all made him a joy to work with. ICPR will miss him.
*ICPR Fall Fundraiser-- THANK YOU!
Thank you to all our supporters who made our Fall Fundraiser a huge success and helped us keep Illinois from hitting rock bottom! Very special thanks goes out to our Paul Simon Service Award Recipeints Hon. Beth Coulson, Hon. Kathy Ryg and Mikva Challenge, our board and to our event sponsors and host committee. We all enjoyed a fabulous time on Wednesday, November 10th at Rock Bottom Brewery. We enjoyed excellent food and drink and fantastic company. We couldn't ask for better friends and we can't wait to do it again!
