*ICPR’s Blog – The Race is On!
Want to know who's giving to Chicago candidates? ICPR's blog, The Race is On, has been buzzing with election news, including reports on top donors to candidates, new donors, and campaign finance trends in the Chicago races, as well as real-time analysis of how the new campaign disclosure law is working. And if you live in the city and want to know who's giving to your candidates, check out the Sunshine Database. With nothing more than your address, we'll tell you who's running, who's given to them, and what that might mean. Go see for yourself!
*It's that time of the decade, again: Redistricting
ICPR continues to advocate for a more transparent redistricting process which allows for Illinois residents to have input during the once-in-a-decade process of drawing new state House, Senate and Congressional district lines. This week, the U.S. Census bureau is expected to delivered detailed headcount data on Illinois residents, and this information will be used by the state's majority Democrats to draw new district borders. A bill awaiting action by Gov. Pat Quinn would require lawmakers to hold a token number of public hearings during the map-drawing process, but it doesn't guarantee that the public will have any meaningful opportunity to watchdog and participate in the process. Read ICPR's letter to Quinn and then tell the governor and your lawmakers what you think!
*ICPR Board member honored for public service
Congratulations to Dawn Clark Netsch, a member of ICPR's Board of Directors, who will receive The Order of Lincoln, the state's highest award for public service! Gov. Pat Quinn will present Netsch with The Order of Lincoln Medallion on April 16. She is being honored for her years of work in Illinois, serving as a delegate to the 1970 Illinois Constitutional Convention, as a state senator and later, comptroller, in addition to her pioneering work in law and politics.
