Get on Your Boots
Several upcoming public hearings deserve your attention. On Friday, March 13, the Illinois Reform Commission will hold a hearing in Chicago to address pay to play and other abuses in state contracting and procurement. And on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, the Joint Committee on Government Reform will hold hearings in Springfield on campaign finance and election reform.

The Illinois Reform Commission hearing will be held at the Chicago Bar Association, 321 South Plymouth Court in Chicago's south loop. The panel will be moderated by Commission Members David Hoffman, Chicago's Inspector General, and Pamela Davis, CEO of Edward Hospital. Expected witnesses will present first-hand knowledge of pay to play in previous administrations, as well as legislators and others with expertise on procurement reform.

The Joint Committee on Government Reform hearing will be held at the State Capitol on Monday and Tuesday. Expected witnesses include reform organizations including ICPR, the CHANGE Illinois coalition, and others.

Now is the time to speak out to legislators and other officials about the need for reform. If you are offended at the shadow Rod Blagojevich continues to cast over the political landscape, if you are angered by the testimony in the current trial of former HDO leader Al Sanchez, if you are outraged by the recurring nightmare of scandal related to money in politics, call your legislator, attend a hearing, join a coalition: take action.
