Where can I find campaign contribution information for candidates’ and incumbents’ PACs?

This information is available and updated constantly on the Illinois State Board of Elections website In the search tab, select “committee search” and enter the relevant information.

Another source of information is ICPR’s Sunshine Database, which updates a broad range of campaign finance information including top contributors, expenditures and political fun activity.

Who can I go to if I am concerned about the conduct or ethics of an Illinois official?

Most state agencies have an auditor or inspector general, who are the best sources for such problems. If you have trouble finding these people, call our offices at (312) 436-1274 and we will help you.

How do I find out about the Whistleblower law in Illinois?

A whistle-blower is someone who exposes wrongdoing, fraud, corruption and/or waste. Taxpayers deserve an honest and efficient government. In 1991, then State Treasurer Pat Quinn led the movement to enact a state whistleblower protection act.

Are contributions to ICPR tax deductible?

Yes. ICPR is a 501(c)(3) charity and contributions are deductible except to the extent you have received something in return (such as a meal). When less than 100 is deductible, we will send you a letter detailing which portions are and are not deductible.

Is there a contribution limit I can give to my state representative or state senator?

In general, the limits under Illinois law for contributing to Illinois candidates are $5,000 per individual, $10,000 per corporation and $50,000 per PAC for each election cycle. There are a variety of exceptions to these limits; for more details see the State Board of Elections Contributions Rules Packet.

How can I find out about SuperPACs, and what rules or laws they abide by?

Good sources of information include the Federal Election Commission, the Center for Responsive Politics and The Campaign Legal Center.
