Proposal by Latino civil rights group would displace many of council's 50 aldermen

In a further splintering of views on how best to redraw Chicago's wards, a prominent Latino civil rights group Wednesday put forward a map to compete with two others submitted by blocs of aldermen.
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund version would displace many of the City Council's 50 aldermen, so it has little chance of approval. But MALDEF officials said they hope it will add to the debate.
"I think that there still is a negotiation process taking place, so we certainly hope that our map has some influence on that process," said Jorge Sanchez, a senior litigator for MALDEF.
